Xero vs AutoCount vs Bukku: Which Accounting Software Suits Your Malaysian Business? (2026)
An honest comparison of pricing models, LHDN e-invoicing, SST, inventory, multi-currency and growth, written by a Xero partner who knows Xero isn't right for everyone.
If you're choosing accounting software in Malaysia, three names come up again and again: Xero, AutoCount and Bukku. All three handle LHDN e-invoicing and SST. But they're built for different kinds of businesses.
We're a Xero partner, so we'll be upfront: Xero isn't the best choice for every business. Here's how they really compare.
Quick answer
- Choose Xero if you want a fully cloud system with strong automation, many integrations, multi-currency, or companies in more than one country.
- Choose AutoCount if you're a trading or distribution business with heavy inventory needs and you prefer a locally developed system with a dealer network.
- Choose Bukku if you're a small, Malaysia-only business that wants simple, local cloud software at a low monthly price in RM.

Pricing: compare total cost, not the sticker price
The three products charge in different ways, so a straight price comparison is misleading.
- Xero charges a monthly subscription per organisation with no per-user fees. From 1 November 2026 the Malaysia list prices are US$7 (Lite), US$32 (Starter), US$54 (Standard) and US$82 (Premium) a month. See the November 2026 price changes. You can also pay a fixed annual price in RM through a Malaysian partner.
- AutoCount is traditionally sold as a one-off licence for its desktop software, plus annual maintenance, priced by the modules and number of concurrent users you need. It's usually bought through a dealer, who may charge separately for setup and training.
- Bukku charges a monthly subscription in RM, with low-cost entry plans for small businesses.
To compare fairly, add up the three-year cost for your business: licence or subscription, users, add-on modules, setup, data migration, training and support.
LHDN e-invoicing and Malaysian tax
All three support MyInvois e-invoicing and SST, so compliance alone shouldn't decide it. What differs is the details. Ask each vendor:
- Is e-invoicing included in my plan, or charged per document or as an add-on?
- Can I issue self-billed e-invoices and consolidated e-invoices?
- How do I fix rejected e-invoices, such as the common ERR237 TIN error?
In Xero, e-invoicing is included in every Malaysia plan. See our Xero e-invoice setup guide.
Inventory: AutoCount's home ground
If stock is the heart of your business (multiple locations, stock transfers, detailed costing), AutoCount's inventory modules are its biggest strength. Xero's built-in tracked inventory covers simpler needs, and stock-heavy Xero users usually add a dedicated inventory app from the Xero App Store. Bukku covers the basics for smaller traders.
Multi-currency and growing beyond Malaysia: Xero's home ground
Xero Premium handles multiple currencies with live exchange rates and automatic FX gain and loss calculations. Because Xero works the same way in Singapore, Australia, the UK and many other countries, a group with companies in several countries can keep one system and one login, and consolidate the results with tools like Syft Analytics.
Automation and integrations
Xero's open API and large app marketplace connect it to CRMs, POS, e-commerce, payroll, document capture and AI tools. You can even connect Xero to Claude AI to ask questions about your numbers. AutoCount and Bukku integrate with fewer, mostly Malaysian, tools.
Which should you choose?

| Imports, exports or foreign-currency clients | Xero Premium |
| Group with companies in Malaysia and abroad | Xero, with Syft Analytics for consolidation |

Frequently asked questions
Can I move from AutoCount or Bukku to Xero?
Yes. A typical migration brings across your chart of accounts, contacts, opening balances and, if needed, prior-year transactions. The cleanest time to switch is the start of a financial year or quarter.
Is Xero more expensive than AutoCount?
It depends on your number of users and modules. Xero has no per-user fees, so it often works out cheaper for businesses with many users; a one-off AutoCount licence can be cheaper over time for a small team that doesn't need cloud access.
